Instead of the expensive art, try Ven a la Luz, south of the hotel zone and Tulum beach. It’s located at Ahau Tulum and has a small entrance fee (around $4 USD). You may also check out SFER IK Museion (Azulik Uh May), a contemporary art museum built around the jungle, with walkways guiding you through nature and art installations integrated with trees and natural materials like bejuco wood.

North-west options, headed up towards Cancún, include below:
Cenote Tankah  ~300 MXN, around $15-$20 USD
Casa Tortuga Tulum = Large cenote with lots of space to swim and relax x4, this is the option the tours market as you get to see 4in1 for $20-$40 USD or $60 CDN, with a tour from Playa from 800 MEX or $61.
